We’ve been staying at this wonderful B&B for the past 15 years, and we never tire of coming back. It’s somewhere we always look forward to, and every visit feels just as special as the first.
You’re guaranteed a warm welcome from Ann and Colin, who truly go above and beyond to make sure your stay is perfect. Their attention to detail and genuine hospitality make all the difference.
Ann’s breakfasts are absolutely gorgeous, with plenty of choice and always cooked to perfection. The accommodation itself is easily above five-star standard—comfortable, spotless, and beautifully maintained.
In the colder months, it’s such a treat to return from a long walk to a lovely lit fire, while in the summer you can relax and enjoy the outdoor seating area. One of our favourite traditions is the Railway Walk, followed by a visit to The Lion Inn at Blakey Ridge for lunch (definitely worth sharing, as the portions are huge!).

Second weekend stay for us already this year and feel like we're visiting family now. The fire, the breakfast, the view outside the window and the peace and quiet... Another amazing stay in the Old Smithy, we have been coming for a few years now and each time it is just perfect. Ann and Colin are just the perfect hosts, nothing is to much trouble and go out of their way to make the stay perfect and relaxing in every possible way with all the little finishing touches they go to like having the log burner blazing for you on your day of arrival and also when you come home from a day out. The breakfasts are out of this world and have a very good selection to choose from and you also get Colin’s sense of humour when you go in for a little chat, I could go on and on about Ann's cottage and the old smithy but if you haven’t tried it it is definitely a must, can’t wait to come back again, thank you once again for our amazing weekend. We have never stayed anywhere quite like this. Ann & Colin are so welcoming. The old smithy is stunning and spotless. Fully equipped with everything you need. Its beautiful. They put their hearts and souls into the old smithy and anns cottage. Breakfast is brought to you every morning and done with perfection.. we have found the perfect place to unwind. We were highly recommended to stay at Ann and Colin's cottage. This place is fantastic. The accommodation was outstanding and the breakfast was way above our expectations; it was superb. Ann and Colin gave such a warm and friendly greeting on our arrival and provided a wealth of local knowledge during our stay. Rosedale and the areas around are beautiful. Another perfect stay in our favourite place. Ann & Colin are the most welcoming hosts, they go out of their way to make your stay extra special. Breakfasts are the best, the accommodation is stunning. You can not find any thing to fault here. We have been coming for over 13 years and we will never get bored. Ann & Colin are so blessed to live in such a beautiful part of the world and we are blessed that they share their accommodation with us :-) Cottage - Anns Cottage Location: West Yorkshire Country: England Places to see - your recommendation : Railway circular is an absolute must with a stop at The Lion Inn at Blakey Ridge. Lastingham - with lunch or tea stop at The Blacksmiths arms Hutton-le-hole Circular walk - Hole of Horcum - There are plenty of walk descriptions in both cottages. Another must....
